Offshore Helicopter EMS Cooperative
Membership has its privileges As a member of the VIH Cougar HEMS Cooperative you will have access to our AW139 aircraft that is:
- Based at the South Lafourche Airport in Galliano, Louisiana
- Certifi ed for IFR/VFR/Day/Night operations
- Capable of long range fl ights, more than 400 NM RT with IFR fuel reserves
- Medically equipped
- Dedicated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- Backed up by aircraft on site

The VIH Cougar Aircraft will be equiped with the following:
- Cockpit Voice Recorder & Flight Data Recorder (CVR/FDR)
- Weather/search radar
- 4-axis Digital Automatic Flight Control System (DAFCS)
- Health and Usage Monitoring System (HUMS)
- LifePort Med Bed
- Floats
- Increased Gross Weight
- Sponson Life Rafts
- Air Conditioning
- BlueSky Network Satellite Based Tracking and Communications
- TCAS I
- Helicopter Emergency Exit Light System (HEELS)
- Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT)
- Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS)
- Auxilary Fuel Tanks
Acadian Ambulance Service
In addition you will have access to the capabilities of the Acadian Ambulance Service. These capabilities include:
- Acadian Flight Paramedics on alert and on site with the aircraft
- Acadian Dispatch Center providing onshore communications services with hospitals, doctors, airports and the Louisiana Emergency Response Network (LERN)
- Continuity of care from the medic on the platform to the doctor in the emergency room, all under Acadian Medical Control
LifePort Medical
Highlights of the LifePort Medical configuration:
- Lightweight, low-profi le, self-contained, modular air ambulance system
- System base unit contains 3500 liter oxygen cylinder (approximately 3.8 hours of oxygen at 15 LPM), 28VDC Thomas vacuum and compressed air systems, and 115 or 230VAC electrical inverter
- Designed to mount to existing aircraft fl oor without the need for tools
- Equipped with a 16G Med Deck for easy patient loading and unloading
