Our primary location in the Gulf of Mexico is at the South Lafourche Airport in Galliano Louisiana. This location is only 26 air miles from Fourchon and only 65 road miles from the Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans. The South Lafourche airport is 45 minutes closer to New Orleans than Fourchon and only 10 minutes farther from most offshore destinations.
In the interest of safety and passenger comfort and convenience, it is our policy to operate from airports whenever possible.
New Facilities
VIH Cougar Helicopters moved into our state of the art passenger terminal, and three bay hangar on 15 acres of land adjacent to the airport runway in May 2009. The South Lafourche Leonard Miller Jr. Airport in Galliano has a 6,500' runway which is long enough for almost any business jet. The airport offers a GPS approach and 24/7 full service FBO.
New Passenger Terminal
The new passenger terminal is designed like an airport terminal in order to meet all TSA, Customs, FAA and Customer requirements. This includes things like:
- Computerized passenger check-in
- Passenger and Baggage scales
- Passenger and Baggage Manifesting
- Passenger and Baggage screening
- TSA Screening
- Passenger drug testing facilities
- Large, comfortable and secure passenger waiting area
- Separate safety briefing rooms for up to 3 simultaneous departures
- Inbound passenger arrival areas for, baggage pick-up, wash rooms and passenger pick-up
- Office space for customer and Customs representatives
- Conference room for special customer needs
- Crew flight planning room
- VIH Cougar Helicopters Administrative offices
- Parking for approximately 750 cars
New Hangar
The new hangar facility is large enough for three Transport Category helicopters with room to spare. Some of the special features of this hangar include:
- Air tempered hangar bays for improved aircraft care, less humidity and a more comfortable and safe working environment for VIH Cougar Helicopters maintenance personnel
- High Speed roll up hangar doors provide improved safety and efficiency
- Operations Offices for flight planning, Chief Pilot and Director of Operations
- Maintenance Offices for our Mechanics, Inspectors, Aircraft Records, and Director of Maintenance
- Paramedic's area for equipment cleaning, maintenance and storage - flight equipment, refrigeration of drugs, etc.
- Parts room for all aircraft parts and maintenance supplies
